Equinix (AE1) Data Center

Equinix AE1 is a purpose-built facility featuring approximately 414 square meters of fully built-out and live whitespace. The data center is housed within a multi-story building utilizing a raised floor design, which facilitates efficient cable management and airflow. It offers a variety of colocation configurations, including full cabinets, partial cabinets, shared rackspace, and secure cages, allowing for scalable deployments tailored to specific business needs.

The electrical systems at AE1 are designed to ensure maximum uptime for mission-critical applications. The facility utilizes a 2N UPS redundancy configuration, ensuring that power remains uninterrupted even during a primary system failure. For long-term outages, the data center is supported by an N+1 standby power system, featuring a block redundant plant room design that provides reliable backup via diesel generators.

Maintaining an optimal environment is a cornerstone of the facility’s "zero downtime" track record. The cooling architecture consists of an air-cooled chiller plant coupled with Computer Room Air Handlers (CRAHs) that deliver chilled air directly into the raised floor. This N+1 cooling redundancy ensures that temperature and humidity levels remain stable even during peak demand or equipment maintenance, protecting hardware from thermal stress.

Security at AE1 is managed through a multi-layered approach that operates 24/7. The facility is protected by CCTV surveillance and rigorous access protocols, including biometric and card access controls. These measures ensure that only authorized personnel can enter the whitespace, while constant facility management monitoring provides real-time oversight of all digital assets and infrastructure health.

To mitigate the risk of fire-related damage, AE1 employs a sophisticated detection and suppression strategy. The facility is equipped with a double-knock VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus) system and smoke detectors to identify potential issues before they escalate. Suppression is handled via gas or dry-pipe fire suppression systems, specifically chosen to protect sensitive electronic equipment from water damage during an emergency.

Strategically positioned as a gateway to South Australia's defense and high-tech sectors, AE1 offers robust interconnection opportunities. The facility currently supports 16 peering networks, providing customers with low-latency access to a diverse range of carriers and service providers. As part of Platform Equinix, users can leverage the Equinix Internet Exchange to aggregate traffic and reduce network hops, enhancing overall application performance.

AE1 adheres to stringent international standards for security, operational excellence, and data protection. The facility is fully certified in ISO 27001 for information security management and maintains compliance with PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard). Additionally, it holds SOC 1 Type II and SOC 2 Type II certifications, providing independent verification of its internal controls and commitment to maintaining a secure and reliable colocation environment.
