Lancom's new data center, Balkan Gate I, commenced operations in 2022 and is strategically located in the Kalochori area of Thessaloniki. The facility is a retrofitted, sole-tenant construction built on an initial 2,500 m2 plot (Live Whitespace), with a planned expansion to 10,000 m2 (Fully Built-Out Whitespace). The design includes expandable whitespace and roof access.
Technical Specifications and Resilience
The data center is constructed according to TIER III specifications from the Uptime Institute, ensuring high availability. It features robust redundancy, including a 2N+1 UPS redundancy for power and N+1 cooling redundancy. The facility supports a maximum power density of 4 kW/sq.m and utilizes cutting-edge systems for managing infrastructure, energy, and cooling.
Security, Compliance, and Support
Balkan Gate I ensures comprehensive security with 24/7 onsite security staff, a fenced perimeter, CCTV surveillance, and multi-layered access controls, including biometric and card access systems. For fire protection, it uses an automatic NOVEC gas suppression system. The facility is supported by 24/7 onsite technical staff offering "Remote Hands" services. It holds several key certifications, including DSS PCI compliance, ISO 27001, ISO 9001, and ISO 27017.

It is gradually being directly connected with all main national, Balkan, and international telecommunications providers. It hosts specialized Internet Exchange (IX) services, currently supporting 2 Internet Exchange Points and 28 peering networks, alongside global carrier-grade connectivity.
Environmental Focus and Future Innovation
Lancom has prioritized environmental responsibility, designing the facility for maximum energy efficiency, which is projected to decrease the carbon footprint by 19,000 tons annually. The upcoming expansion will also house Lancom's R&D department (focusing on Cloud, Big Data, AI, and IoT) and an innovation hub for startups in related technologies.
