Digital Realty (KIX13) Data Center

KIX13, also known as Digital Osaka 4, is a carrier-neutral data center on the KIX campus in Japan. The facility is a three-story building, reinforced with seismic isolation systems for resilience against earthquakes. It offers flexible deployment solutions, from small-scale kilowatt needs to large-scale multi-megawatt setups, and is part of a larger campus with a total IT capacity of over 70 MW.

The facility has a total IT power capacity of 21.0 MW. It's designed to support high-load servers and features robust power infrastructure, including N+1 UPS redundancy and on-site diesel generators, ensuring continuous operation even during power outages. The facility is designed for an optimal Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.40, reflecting its energy efficiency.

KIX13 uses an N+1 cooling redundancy system to maintain a stable environment for critical systems. The cooling infrastructure is a chilled water system with a hot aisle containment design. This design, along with modular air-cooled chillers, helps ensure that the facility can support high-density deployments, including those for demanding workloads like AI.

Digital Realty is committed to sustainability and has a policy of building resource-efficient, environmentally responsible data centers. While KIX13 itself has specific certifications, Digital Realty's overall portfolio is known for certifications like ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems) and ISO 50001 (Energy Management), as well as green building certifications like LEED and BREEAM. Security is a top priority at KIX13. The facility is protected by a multi-layered security system that includes 24/7 onsite security staff, biometric access control, and card access control. CCTV surveillance with 90 days of retention, along with strict access protocols and mantraps, ensures that only authorized personnel can enter the premises, providing a high level of physical protection.

As a carrier-neutral facility, KIX13 provides access to a variety of network and connectivity providers. It offers direct access to Digital Realty's Service Exchange, which gives customers flexible connectivity options and allows for interconnection to a larger ecosystem of cloud and network service providers. The facility also features diverse fiber paths and redundant Points of Presence (PoPs), ensuring reliable, low-latency connections.

KIX13 is specifically designed to support demanding workloads like AI and machine learning. It is a certified NVIDIA DGX H100-ready data center, meaning it can provide the dedicated, robust, and resilient environment required for intensive computing systems. It also offers a range of services, including remote hands, private cages, and shared rackspace, making it a versatile option for various business needs.
