Global Switch (Amsterdam East) Data Center

Global Switch Amsterdam is strategically situated within the Slotervaart and Overtoomseveld district, positioned immediately adjacent to the primary Dutch cable infrastructure. This prime location offers a significant geographical advantage, placing the world class data centre campus just 2km away from Amsterdam’s bustling financial district and the historic city centre. By being at the heart of this connectivity hub, the facility ensures ultra low latency and seamless access for businesses operating within the Netherlands and across Europe.

A standout feature of this facility is its direct connection to the national grid, making it the only provider in the city with a dedicated mains power supply. The site currently operates with and is planning for a massive 72MVA capacity at 50kV. This robust electrical backbone allows the data centre to offer a standard power density of 2,000 W per sq.m., while maintaining the infrastructure necessary to support much higher densities for specialized high performance computing requirements.

The campus is currently expanding through the construction of "Amsterdam East," a project designed to set new benchmarks for environmental sustainability in the data industry. This extension targets a low Power Usage Effectiveness of less than 1.2. To achieve this, the design incorporates 100% green energy and utilizes cutting edge technologies, including a flooded room cooling design with hot aisle containment and an advanced free cooling water based system, eventually earning a BREEAM "Very Good" rating.

The total building footprint spans 32,000 sq.m., providing a fully built out power capacity of 40 MW. Reliability is engineered into every level of the facility's design, adhering to Tier 3 standards. To ensure 100% uptime, the site employs N+2 UPS redundancy, alongside N+1 redundancy for both cooling systems and standby power. This rigorous approach to hardware distribution ensures that the facility remains operational even during equipment maintenance or unforeseen failures.

Global Switch offers a highly flexible range of hosting environments to suit various business scales, ranging from shared rackspace and partial cabinets to full cabinets, private cages, and bespoke suites. Beyond physical space, the facility provides comprehensive support through 24/7 onsite technical staff and Remote Hands services. This allows clients to manage their hardware effectively without needing to be physically present, supported by a purpose built structure featuring solid floors, office spaces, and dedicated loading bays.

Security is a top priority, managed through a combination of physical barriers and advanced technology. The campus features 24/7 onsite security personnel and a comprehensive CCTV surveillance network. Access is strictly controlled via a multi stage process that includes card access, biometric verification, and mantrap entries to prevent unauthorized tailgating. These measures ensure that the physical integrity of the data and hardware remains uncompromised at all times.

The facility is a major connectivity nexus, hosting two distinct Internet Exchange Points and featuring dedicated Meet Me Rooms for carrier interconnection. Furthermore, it maintains an extensive list of global certifications to meet regulatory and operational standards. These include ISO 27001 for information security, ISO 14001 for environmental management, ISO 50001 for energy management, and PCI DSS compliance for secure financial data handling, alongside ISAE 3402 Type 1 and ISO 45001 certifications.
