TierPoint (TierPoint Sioux Falls West) Data Center

Purpose-built as a hardened facility, TierPoint’s Sioux Falls West data center is designed to provide high-tier disaster recovery and colocation services. The building spans a total of 25,000 square feet, with 4,300 square feet dedicated to fully built-out whitespace. The infrastructure is specifically engineered to handle high-density equipment, utilizing a four-foot hot aisle/cold aisle configuration. This layout is optimized to accommodate modern hardware demands, including UCS servers and large SAN equipment, ensuring efficient airflow and space management.

To guarantee continuous uptime, the facility utilizes a sophisticated power architecture featuring multiple substations and redundant power feeds. The primary electrical backup includes an N+1 Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system and a 1MW standby diesel generator supported by a 3,500-gallon on-site fuel tank. This multi-layered approach to energy ensures that client operations remain uninterrupted even during local grid failures or significant regional power events.

Maintaining a stable climate is critical for hardware longevity, and the Sioux Falls West center achieves this through N+1 CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioning) units. This redundancy ensures that if one cooling unit fails, the remaining systems can maintain the necessary temperature and humidity levels for the entire floor. For fire safety, the facility is equipped with a specialized Ecaro25 fire suppression system, designed to extinguish threats rapidly without damaging sensitive electronic components.

Security is managed through a multi-tiered defense strategy that operates 24 hours a day. Physical access is strictly controlled via biometric scanners and card access systems, ensuring only authorized personnel enter the whitespace. The perimeter and interior are under constant CCTV surveillance and professional monitoring. Furthermore, the facility includes a dedicated loading bay to facilitate the secure transfer of hardware and equipment into the data center.

The data center undergoes annual audits to meet a wide array of stringent industry certifications, making it suitable for highly regulated sectors. It is SOC 1 Type II and SOC 2 Type II certified, while also maintaining compliance with HIPAA for healthcare data, GLBA for financial services, and PCI-DSS for payment card security. Additionally, the facility adheres to ITAR and EU-US Privacy Shield standards, providing a secure environment for international data handling and sensitive government-related projects.

As part of an integrated regional network of TierPoint data centers, the Sioux Falls West location offers extensive peering networks and high-speed connectivity. Clients can choose from a variety of colocation options, including full or partial cabinets, shared rack space, private cages, and custom suites.
